As a therapist, you will find me warm and compassionate. I care deeply about each of my clients and have great respect for life stories they bring. I have trained and worked hard to acquire the skills necessary to be a knowledegable therapist informed in the latest effective methods. I continue to learn both through continued professional education and through my work with my clients. I will share my expertise and honesty as we work together.
Although I tailor my methods to the unique needs of my clients, I will almost always use a systems-based and solution-focused approach that looks at the whole person and his/her environment and draw upon his/her resources and strengths. My areas of expertise include couples work, family relationships, mind/body wellness, spiritual wellbeing, parenting, and life transitions. For the last five years, I have worked with individuals, couples and families in diverse settings: outpatient mental health clinic, hospital inpatient unit for addicted population, and in private practice.
Beyond the professional training, I have had 34 years of marriage and 30 years of being a parent to four children ranging in ages from 21 to 30. These years have given me an invaluable gift of knowing firsthand the joys and challenges of parenting. Additionally, I was born in South Korea and have had the privilege of growing up in various other countries (such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Somalia and France). That experience has allowed me to develop a great appreciation for the diversity of human cultures. I value the unique cultural, ethnic and familial background of each of my clients and the impact it has on their values and outlook. I am also fluent in Korean.
